What's Your Leadership Style?

No matter what type of company you are, a bad boss is bad for business. The wrong leadership can lead to low morale, poor performance and a strain on your relationships with clients and customers.

There are a lot of good (and bad) leadership styles out there, but knowing how to be successful is always a challenge. People are unique, and managing personalities while you adhere to deadlines and address concerns takes effort and time to perfect. These are a few of the best qualities you'll want to incorporate as you hone your personal style.

  • Be Democratic.

Know when to consult your team for their expertise and delegate tasks. If you're an in-house firm, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your employees can help you decide whether you'll benefit from outsourcing. Democratic leadership makes every member feel important and respected, which is vital for anyone who wants to do an exemplary job.

  • Communicate.

Very few people in the world who actively don't want to do well at their job. Some need more direction, better definition, or simply incentive. You need to have a good rapport with your team, but you can't be their friends. If someone's performance is lackluster, make sure to make it known to them, see what the issues might be and look for resolutions. Similarly, communicate when your team does a great job. When a person feels like his or her work is both appreciated, valued and (this is big) necessary, they're much more likely to work harder, and enjoy doing it.

  • Transparency

Similar to being an effective communicator, transparency in leadership is proven to be one of the most effective strategies of leadership. Remember, This process takes time. Being open about your role as leader and what is expected from you builds trust among employees. The more your employees understand your goals and what you need as a leader, the more they'll respect and want to follow you.

Your leadership style is ultimately a mixture of these techniques that work the best for you, and you need to be dynamic depending on what tasks are at hand. Contact us for more strategies that will work for you.
